Hiding Places:
The Piano, let's hide in our worlds
2011
Designer/Director Isabel Pirillo
Venue - Wimbledon College of Art Theatre
The performance is about how we can 'hide' ourselves in our work and get so immersed that we are unaware of what is going on around us. It explores the relationship between a musician and his music. The character (musician) literally lives in his music, the piano. The rest of the space is shown to be uncared for, derelict and dishevelled.
This focus is also shown through lighting; such as when the audience enter, a single spotlight highlights the lonely piano. When the piano side opens a sea of sheet music pours out, in which the performer tumbles out of. He uses the sheet music when he moves so that the sheets themselves dance in the floor. This mirrors how natural and personal the music is to him.
